Nampeyo, Ellsworth Polacca – Small Bowl with Pheasant and Turquoise (1979)

Ellsworth Polacca Nampeyo was a son of noted potter Fannie Nampeyo and a grandson of Nampeyo of Hano. He was a brother of Elva Nampeyo, Leah Nampeyo, Tonita Nampeyo, Harold Polacca, Thomas Polacca, and Iris Nampeyo. He began making pottery in the late 1970s and continued through the 1980s. This small bowl is fully polished red.  It is both carved and etched with designs.  There is a pheasant as the main design, around which it is deeply carved. The remainder of the bowl is etched with a feather pattern and a sash design.  There is a single inset piece of turquoise.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ellsworth Polacca Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  He as not very prolific so we do not see a lot of his pieces of pottery come back to the gallery.  Shipping included.
