Nampeyo, Fannie – Bowl with 12 Blackbirds Migration Pattern (1960s)
This bowl by Fannie Nampeyo is a classic round form. The design is a bird migration pattern. The birds wings are painted in black and encircle the piece. There are 12 bird wings above the shoulder painted with bee-weed (black). Below the shoulder are the bird tails that extend down to the base. The design has a great flow and symmetry around the entire piece. It was traditionally fired creating striking color variations on the surface. It is nice to see symmetry on her pottery. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Fannie Nampeyo” and it is from the 1960’s.
