Nampeyo, Fannie – Bowl with 22 Blackbirds Migration Pattern (1976)
This bowl by Fannie Nampeyo is a classic bowl shape and round form. The design is a bird migration pattern. The bird wings are painted in black and encircle the piece. There are 22 bird wings (11 pairs). Below the shoulder are the bird tails which extend down to the base. The design has a great flow around the entire piece. It was traditionally fired creating the striking color variations on the surface. It’s not often that we see such complex painting on Fannie’s smaller pieces. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Fannie Nampeyo 1976”.
