Nampeyo, Fannie – Bowl with Hopi Bird Designs (1960’s)

7.5"w x 5"h

$ 1,600.00

This is a classic bowl by Fannie Nampeyo. She was the youngest daughter of noted potter Nampeyo of Hano and also the mother of noted potters Iris Nampeyo, Leah Nampeyo, and Thomas Polacca.  She was certainly among the most skilled of her generation for painting designs pottery.  This bowl is very intricately painted with  Hopi birds along with very tightly painted cloud and hatchwork patterns.  The bowl is painted with bee-weed (black) and highlighted with red clay slips.  The bowl was traditionally fired so that it has some visually striking blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Fannie Nampeyo”.   It is in very good with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
