Nampeyo, James Garcia – Water Jar Bird Tail Jar

8.25"w x 6.25"h

$ 800.00

James Garcia Nampeyo was a son of Leah Garcia Nampeyo, a grandson of Fannie Nampeyo, and a great-grandson of Nampeyo of Hano.  This jar has a classic Hopi water jar shape with a round shoulder and a short neck.  The jar is painted with two large sections that have large bird tails extending down over the shoudler.  There are bird wings on the sides.  The piece is painted with bee-weed (black) and highlighted with red clay slip. The designs are intricately painted.  The jar was traditionally fired to give it the coloration with some subtle blushes.  It is signed on the bottom, “James G. Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
