Nampeyo, James Garcia – Wide Jar with Hopi Beetle Design

9"w x 3.75"h

$ 875.00

James Garcia Nampeyo is a son of Leah Garcia Nampeyo, a grandson of Fannie Nampeyo and a great-grandson of Nampeyo of Hano.  This jar has a classic Hopi shape with the very wide shoulder and a flat top.  The design is one which is often called a “beetle” design and it was seen in the pottery of Nampeyo of Hano.  There are four beetles as the design and each is painted extending over the shoulder of the jar.  They are painted with bee-weed (black) and highlight with polished red areas.  The bowl was traditionally fired to give it the coloration with some subtle blushes.  It is signed on the bottom, “James G. Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
