Melda Garcia Nampeyo is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano.  She is a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo and a daughter of Leah Garcia Nampeyo.  This is a larger piece of her pottery. It is painted on the top half with bee-weed (Black) and red clay slip.  The jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck. The is an Awatovi style bird on each side of the jar. The remainder is made up of pottery shard designs.  They are tightly painted and interconnected.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are slight blushes to the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Melda Nampeyo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
