Nampeyo, Neva – Jar with Hopi Stylized Birds (1974)

Neva Nampeyo (b. 1947) is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo, granddaughter of Fannie Polacca Nampeyo.  She is a daughter of Richard and Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo.  Her sisters Adelle Lalo Nampeyo, Miriam Tewaguna Nampeyo, and brother is  Elton Nampeyo are also potters.  This jar is coil-built and stone polished.  It is painted with bee-weed and red clay slip. The jar has two stylized Hopi birds as the design. The heads or beaks of the birds are curved to the base. The triangle design is the tail and the remainder are stylized wings.  The jar is signed, “Neva Nampeyo”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair and dated 1974.
