Nampeyo, Priscilla Namingha – Jar with Bird Tail Designs
Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo was a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and granddaughter of Annie Healing, She was also a sister of Dextra Quotskuyva Nampeyo. Priscilla was the matriarch of a family of renowned potters, including Rachel, Bonnie, Nyla, and Jean Sahmie. Priscilla began making pottery when she was only seven years old, under the guidance of Nampeyo of Hano. This jar has a high shoulder and it is fully polished. The design is a stylized eagle tail extending down from the rim. The triangular design extending up might be a fish design. The jar was traditionally fired and so it has blushes across the surface. It is signed on the bottom “Priscilla Namingha Nampeyo”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
