Nampeyo, Rachel – Bowl with Eagle Tail Designs (1960s)

5.5"w x 3"h

$ 325.00

Rachel Namingha Nampeyo was a granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and a daughter of Annie Healing. She was the mother of noted potters Priscilla Nampeyo, Dextra Quotskuyva, Eleanor Lucas, Emerson Namingha, and Ruth Namingha. She was known for her use of traditional designs on her pottery and continuing the pottery legacy of her grandmother.  This bowl has a flatter top and painted with two opposing eagle tail designs.  Separating them are rain and cloud designs.  The red areas are also stone polished.  The opening on the bowl is a bit asymmetrical.  It was traditionally fired so there are blushes on the surface.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Rachel Nampeyo”.
