Naranjo, Florence Aguilar – Polychrome Plate with Avanyu and Feather Designs (1950s)

11.25" diameter

$ 750.00

Florence Naranjo is a daughter of noted potters Rosalie & Joe Aguilar and a granddaughter of Susana Aguilar.  Her brother, Alfred Aguilar, is also a well-known potter at San Ildefonso Pueblo.  This is one of her few polychrome pieces of pottery. The plate is fully painted with black and red on a cream-colored background. The design is an avanyu encircling the outer edge of the plate and a feather pattern in the center.  It is a classic design and not often that we see polychrome pieces in this larger size from the 1950s.  It is signed on the back, “Florence Naranjo”.  It is good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
