Naranjo-Garcia, Sharon – Red Bowl with Carved Avanyu and Black Interior (2002)

6.25"w x 4.25"h

$ 400.00

Sharon Naranjo Garcia (b. 1951) is a granddaughter of Christina Naranjo.  She learned to make pottery from her grandmother and is known for her traditional style of pottery.  This bowl is a classic shape with a slightly inturned rim.  The exterior of the bowl is carved with an avanyu encircling the piece. It is fully polished. The interior was polished tan.  It turned black during the outdoor firing.  It is a striking color contrast to the deep red exterior.  The complexity of her designs is certainly reminiscent of the work of her aunt, Teresita Naranjo.  It is always nice to see a balance of form and design in pottery!  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Sharon Naranjo Garcia”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
