Madeline Naranjo (1916-2020) was known for her deep carved pottery.  This is a jar with a sharp shoulder and a sloping neck. The jar is deeply carved just above the shoulder with a cloud pattern.  Typical of much of her work, it is carved into the negative space. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Madeline N.”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Madeline’s legacy continues in the pottery of her granddaughter, Madeline E. Naranjo.  It was originally purchased in 1970.
