Naranjo, Nicolasa – Polychrome Jar with Star Design (1968)

6"w x 6.25"h

$ 250.00

This is a striking red jar by Nicolasa Naranjo from 1968.  She was a daughter of potter Tomasita Tafoya Naranjo and a niece of Margaret Tafoya.  She created a wide variety of pieces over the years of her pottery career, including polychrome pieces as well as black-on-black pottery.  This jar was originally purchased in 1968.  It is a classic long neck jar.  It is polished red and then painted with white and red clay slips.  It is a swirling star pattern with lines painted in white.  It is actually a very elegant color combination and certainly harkens to ancient Tonto Basin redware.  The red areas are very highly polished. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Nicolasa”.  Shipping included.
