Charlotte Naranjo-Suina (1936-2010) was a daughter of Nicolasa Naranjo and a sister of Roberta Naranjo. She was married to Joseph Suina and the mother of Joseph, Deborah, and Dorothy Suina. This is a larger piece of her pottery. It is coil-built, stone polished, and painted. The bowl is fully polished red. It is painted with her stylized avanyu using black, blue, and pink clays. Including the red polished surface, there are four different colors of clay used on this piece, making it a true polychrome vessel (i.e. more than 3 colors). The avanyu is very complex in design. The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Charlotte S.”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
