Ortiz, Janice – “Cowboy & Cowgirl” Pair
Janice Ortiz is a sister of noted potter Virgil Ortiz. She has created a variety of traditional Cochiti figurative work over the years. This is a pair of figures, a “cowboy and cowgirl”. They are separate pieces and stand individually. However, they are made with the arm extended so they work as a pair. Each piece is coil built and painted with native clay slips and wild spinach plant for the black. They are each traditionally fired. The figures are signed on the bottom, “J. Ortiz”.
