This is a classic Acoma water jar by Robert Patricio. This jar has a high shoulder and elongated neck. Around the neck is a lightning design.  Below are triangular mountains.  Around the shoulder of the jar are clouds in red and raindrops below.  See the triangular lines shapes around the raindrops?  Those are meant to be the reflection of the drops in the sun!  Robert has used two different colors of clay along with the white slip and black-bee-weed to paint the designs. The base is painted with red clay.  It is signed on the bottom, “R.  M.  Patricio”.  The jar is an exciting extension of his artistry in clay and continuing the amazing Acoma legacy.

““The pottery inspires me to keep going.  Keeping the tradition alive in making pottery, that’s how we were brought up.  Our ancestors started making pottery.  It’s amazing what comes of a piece of clay.
