Patricio, Robert – Four Color Jar with Moth Design

8"w x 7.5"h

$ 1,600.00

This is a highly detailed jar by Robert Patricio.  It is a classic coil-built water jar. The neck has a cloud and moth pattern.  The moths are an old design and the wings are painted with colors and thin lines.  The body of the jar has clouds, rain, and star patterns.  The clouds are slipped with red and orange clay.  The black and white vertical designs are the stars. The checkerboard pattern is the sunset and below are more black-and-white stars.  It is colorful and incredibly detailed in design.  Robert uses clay colors, thin lines, and open space to create dynamic imagery on his pottery.   The base is painted with red clay.  It is signed on the bottom, “R.  M.  Patricio”.  The jar is an exciting extension of his artistry in clay and continues the amazing Acoma legacy.   Robert is one of the few potters to have won “Best of Pottery” two times at Santa Fe Indian Market!

Robert said recently of his pottery:

““The pottery inspires me to keep going.  Keeping the tradition alive in making pottery, that’s how we were brought up.  Our ancestors started making pottery.  It’s amazing what comes of a piece of clay. When you come to Acoma it’s peacuful and quite.  When you look a piece of pottery, you see the same peacefulness.”   Robert Patricio, 2020
