Patricio, Robert – Large Four-Color Jar with Deer and Parrots

13"w x 13"h

$ 3,000.00

This is one of the largest pieces we have had from Robert Patricio.  It is a large jar with a high shoulder and an elongated neck.  The jar is painted with bee-weed and different clay slips.  The neck has a cloud pattern.  Around the body of the jar sections with parrots and deer.  Separating them are rainbird swirls with hachwork lines.  There are large medallions with cornfield designs in the center.  Note all the fine lines on the jar!  The birds and deer alternate from red to brown clay colors. It is an exceptional balance of form, design, color, and intricacy.  The base is painted with red clay.  It is signed on the bottom, “R.  M.  Patricio”.  The jar is an exciting extension of his artistry in clay and continuing the amazing Acoma legacy.

Robert said recently of his pottery:

““The pottery inspires me to keep going.  Keeping the tradition alive in making pottery, that’s how we were brought up.  Our ancestors started making pottery.  It’s amazing what comes of a piece of clay. When you come to Acoma it’s peacuful and quite.  When you look a piece of pottery, you see the same peacefulness.”   Robert Patricio, 2020
