This large water jar by Robert Patricio utilizes classic Acoma designs.  Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery.  This jar is coil built, thin-walled, and painted with bee-weed (black).  The jar has large interlocking mesa and lightning designs.  They are filled in with thin lines.  The designs around the neck are smaller, while those around the body of the jar are bold.  Note the precision of the thin lines!  It is exceptional and the black and white coloration gives the jar a very modern appearance.  Robert is certainly one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today which is evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
