Patricio, Robert – Long Neck Jar with Birds, Deer and Feather Designs

8"w x 11"h

$ 1,600.00

Robert Patricio is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery.  The shape of this jar is inspired by the work of his great-grandmother, Marie Z. Chino.  The jar has a long neck and a round shoulder.  The neck of the jar has a stylized feather design painted in eight rows. Note the small band of checkerboard before the shoulder.  On the top of the shoudler are four sections with alternating red heartline deer and Acoma style birds.  The surrounding area is painted with fine-lines.  Below the shoulder are larger sections with more birds and heartline deer.  Separating them are rain sections with lightning.  The jar is colorful and also complex in design with thin lines, checkerboard, and feathers.  The heartline deer are a classic design in Acoma pottery with the heartline representing the heart, or spirit, of the deer.  The base of the jar is slipped red.  Robert is certainly one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today which is evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.  There is also a photo of him holding the jar.
