Pavatea, Garnet – Jar with Hopi Birds

3.25"w x 5.25"h

$ 300.00

Garnet Pavatea is one of the great names in Hopi-Tewa pottery.  She created traditional Hopi pottery, but was also well known for her corrugated pieces.  This jar is a classic example of her painted pottery. The jar has a red clay slip on the neck and the remainder is the natural clay. There are two Hopi style birds painted on the sides.  Each bird has the red clay for the head.  The shape and design work beautifully on this jar.   It is traditionally fired, so there are some fireclouds.  It is signed on the bottom and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
