Pena, Juanita – Bowl with Feather Pattern (1920)

6.75"w x 3"h

$ 400.00

This bowl by Juanita Pena is yet another of her distinctive pieces of pottery. The bowl is round with just a slight edge to the shoulder. The design is an early style feather pattern.  Note how the vent of the feather (the rectangle near the rim) is in the center.  This is how this design originated and then over time, the vent was moved to the side for ease in painting.  The feathers are painted at just a slight angle around the top of the piece.  It is fired a deep black coloration.  The bowl is in very good condition with no cracks, restoration, or repair..  There is one small area of roughness near the base, where there might have been a price tag at one time.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Juanita”.   Juanita created some truly exceptional early pottery with innovative designs, great condition, and wonderful history.
