Penketewa, Travis – Zuni Jar with Heartline Deer and Frog Lig
This is an exceptional large painted jar by Travis Penkatewa. His parents are noted jewelers Alfonso and Dorothy Penketewa. This large jar is a classic Zuni shape with a high shoulder. The body of the jar has two large rosettes. They are separated by bands of heartline deer and birds. The neck of the jar has Zuni rainbirds along with stylized birds. The lid has a frog in relief. The painting is amazingly intricate as well as beautifully matching the shape of the jar. The imagery reinforces the roundness of the shoulder and slope of the neck. The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Travis Penketewa”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
