Peynetsa, Jamie – 14″ Tall Jar with Rainbirds and Rosettes
Jamie Peynetsa is the son of noted potters Anderson and Avelia Peynetsa. Jamie both made and painted this large jar. It is made in the classic Zuni style with the lower double shoulder near the base. The jar is slipped with a white clay and painted with both red and black designs. The entire piece is fully painted and there is a kinetic sense of motion with the flow and complexity of the designs. Around the body of the piece, there are large rosettes and smaller birds and swirling bird wing motifs. The neck has more intricate rainbirds as the design. The birds are highlighted with fine-line imagery which makes up the bodies. The way Jamie paints the piece so that the design matches the form is part of the dynamic nature of the vessel. It is a large and elegant piece! It is signed on the bottom. At only 22 years old, he certainly has a great future in pottery!
