Vernida Polacca Nampeyo is a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano and a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. Her father, Harold Polacca, was a son of Fannie. She is a sister of noted potters Clinton Polacca and Reva Ami. Vernida is known for her finely painted traditionally designed Hopi pottery.  This jar has a wide shoulder and an elongated neck.  The shoulder of the jar is fully painted with a migration pattern.  There are 7 bird wings above the shoulder and seven below, for a total of 14.  Note the precision of Verndia’s painting.  The jar was traditionally fired, which created the blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Vernida Polacca Nampeyo”.
