Rickey, Marcia – Corrugate Rim Jar with Rain Designs (1960’s)

6"w x 5"h

$ 825.00

Marcia Rickey is a potter from Walpi at Hopi. She is known by her hallmark as “Flying Ant Woman”. This is one of the only pieces we have seen where she has a corrugated neck on the jar and also used the Hopi white clay. The jar is corrugated around the neck with the small indentions.  Around the body of the piece, it is intricately painted with checkerboard rain and cloud patterns.  There are highlights of the polished red clay slip.  The jar is beautifully constructed and painted.  It is signed on the bottom in bee-weed with a flying ant, which was her hallmark.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is definitely a unique and classic piece of her pottery.
