Marcia Rickey is a potter from Walpi at Hopi. She is known by her hallmark as “Flying Ant Woman”. This is one of the few small pieces we have had of her work.  It is fully polished on the outside and inside.  The design on the inside of the bowl a classic Sikyatki inspired hummingbird spiraling around the surface.  The red areas are additional clay that is polished while the black is wild spinach (a plant). The piece was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in bee-weed with a flying ant, which was her hallmark.  The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair with some fugitive black.
