This is a stunning jar by Jordan Roller.  The shape is one of his creative forms which are water jar inspired.  The jar undulates in and out creating three sharp edges!  There are two distinctive bands of design. The top band has a lightning, cloud and mountain design. The bottom band is tightly carved with swirling clouds and lighting patterns.  Jordan has created a unique style of carving with bold, open areas and sections in which the lines are nearly paper thin to separate the sections. The jar is fully polished and there are matte areas which contrast with the polished surfaces.  The jar is fired a brown coloration which gives additional variation to the colors of the jar as it is turned.  The angles of the jar, the highly polished surface and the complex carving result in a stunning overall appearance. Beyond the beauty of the carving and the polished surface is that the jar is surprisingly thin walled.  It is lighter than most carved vessels and that adds to the physical impact of the piece.  Jordan remains an important young potter to watch!
