Jordan Roller continues to create some exceptional shapes.  This stunning jar is a distinctive shape with a double shoulder and neck. It’s always more complicated to create these undulating forms.  The body of the jar is carved with alternating feathers.  Note how the feathers are alternating with the plain ones in the style of his grandmother, Toni Roller.  The alternating ones with the point are each carved with a different design. These are in Jordan’s distinctive style of carving. Note the use of the narrow and wide lines of carving.  The narrow lines are often created by just using sandpaper!  Jordan has reinterpreted the classic imagery of Santa Clara pottery though a modern lens.  While the designs evolve it is the tradition of the clay, polishing and traditional firing which holds firm.  He remains an important potter to watch!
