Roybal, Tonita – Jar with Rain and Cloud Designs (1920’s)

8"w x 6.25"h

$ 1,800.00

Tonita Roybal remains one of the great innovative names in San Ildefonso pottery.  This bowl reflects the exceptional nature of her pottery designs, shapes, and firing.  The jar has a very round shoulder and short neck. The shape is one that almost reminds one of a storage jar.  The entire piece is fully polished and there is a single band of design around the shoulder.  The designs are rain, clouds and lightning designs.  The jar is fired to a dark black with areas of gunmetal (a metallic appearance) the surface. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed, “Tonita” in the clay on the bottom.
