Sakvea, Vernita – Plate with Bird (1974)

3" diameter

$ 100.00

Vernita Sakeva (b. 1951) is a daughter-in-law of noted potter Beth Sakeva and the wife of Alfonso Sakeva.  She learned to make pottery from Beth. This small plate is painted with a classic Hopi bird as the design. The bird is painted with bee-weed and a red clay slip.  It is signed on the back “Vernita Sakeva”.   As she no longer makes pottery, this is one of the few pieces of her work we have seen.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
