Salazar, Ana (Than Povi) – 11″ Tall Wedding Vase with Birds (1960’s)

4.25'w x 2.5"h

$ 450.00

Ana Salazar is a daughter of Geronima Abeyta and learned to make pottery from her mother.  Her pieces are signed, “Than Povi” which is her name in Tewa.  This is one of the largest piece of her work we have had in the gallery. The handle and ends of the spouts are fully polished a deep red.  The remainder is matte and incised with large birds on each side, separated by prayer feathers.  It is complicated and striking piece in person! There is an elegant precision to the designs as they are highlighted in red, white, and brown.  The vase was traditionally fired.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed, “Than Povi” on the bottom.
