Lilly Salvador is known for her thin-walled pottery and use of native materials to paint her designs.  This charming miniature is a corn maiden.  The corn kernels are carved into the clay and the husks are painted.  In the Pueblo culture, corn is the symbol of life. The Corn Maiden “grandmother of the sun and the light” is the one who brought this gift of the corn to the people.  The Corn Maiden brings the power of life to the people. For the size, there is amazing detail!  All the various colors are from natural clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Lilly”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
