6"w x 8.75"h

$ 950.00

Desideria Montoya Sanchez was a sister of noted potter Maria Martinez.  She was known for her traditional pottery and use of both classic and innovative designs. This jar is one of her classic shapes with a round body and an elongated neck. The neck of the jar is painted with triangular mountain designs. The body of the jar has bird wing patterns.  It was fired a nearly gunmetal coloration.   The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  There are some light surface scratches around the shoulder.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Desideria”.  The last photo is one of Desideria in the 1920s.
