This is a classic bear lidded bowl by Russell Sanchez. He continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery. Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired. The bowl is carved with a series of round circles that increase in size. Russell said when he saw this piece that is was a variation from the ones that he carved with lightning bolts. Russell continues to evolve his pottery and experiment, making even earlier pieces a reflection of his creativity. The piece was fired a glassy black and the rim was two-toned sienna. The bowl has a bear lid that is also fully polished. Note how the bear has his head turned! It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed, “Russell Sanchez”.
