This is a classic water jar by Russell Sanchez.  The jar is coil-built, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  The jar has a sharp shoulder and a slight indent before the neck.  The underside of the neck is slipped with mica.  The rim of the jar is fluted.  The piece was highly fired to a silvery-gunmetal coloration. The rim is two-toned sienna.  Around the neck are three inset bands of hei-shi beads.  The lid is also a gunmetal coloration.  Russell is one of the few potters working today who is able to achieve this gunmetal coloration in his firing.  The jar is signed on the base in the clay, “Russell”
