This is a carved and polished bowl by Russell Sanchez.  The bowl is round and shape and carved in two areas with oval medallions. One has a Mimbres style fish, and the other a bear.  Each is inset with a piece of turquoise for the body and a turquoise eye.  Surrounding each medallion is a single band of turquoise hei-shi beads.  Separating them, the entire bowl has been fully polished.  The piece was fired to a gunmetal silvery coloration. The gunmetal shine creates a striking visual contrast to the matte of the medallions.  It is a simple yet creative and elegant bowl.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Russell”.
