Sarracino, Myron – Open Bowl with Snow, Wind and Rain Designs

8.5"w x 4"h

$ 375.00

This is a classic open bowl by Myron Sarracino.  He is one of the few Laguna potters working today.  He learned to make pottery from Gladys Paquin and creates pieces which are thin-walled and tightly painted. This bowl is open and has a rain design painted around the outside. The interior is fully designed. The center is red and then a back of checkerboard designs representing snow.  Around the inside are wind patterns with fine-line rain patterns.  It is always amazing to see an open bowl with so much design painted on the interior.  It is always more difficult for the artist to paint inside an open bowl as they have to paint in a different direciton.  This bowl has a striking design and amazing he was able to paint with so many thin lines!  Note as well that on the rim that there is a  painted “spirit line”, which is where the “spirit” of the painter is able to leave the piece and it is also a tribute to the potters who came before.  It is seen on much older Acoma and Laguna pottery.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Myron Sarracino”.
