13.5"w x 8"h

$ 1,100.00

Dee Setalla is a son of noted potter Pauline Setalla and a brother of Stetson Setalla, Gwen Setalla, and Agnes Nasonhoya.  This large jar has a round shoulder and a turned-out rim. The top of the rim is flat and has lines representing rain.  The jar is highly polished in a vertical style. It is painted with bee-weed (black) and two different colors of red clay slips.  The jar has large Awatovi style birds on the shoulder.  They are standing over mesa, star, and field designs.  As the jar is turned, there are large painted clouds and wind patterns.  Below the shoulder are cloud designs.  The jar was traditionally fired with exceptional blushes on the surface.  It is signed with his initials “D. S.” and bear paw (for Bear Clan).  The jar has a third-place ribbon from the 1998 Museum of Northern Arizona Hopi Show.  Most recently, Dee won the prestigious “Helen Naha” Award at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2019.
