Shutiva-Histia, Jackie – White Jar with Katsina Figure

7"w x 6"h

$ 375.00

Jackie Shutiva-Histia (b. 1961) is a daughter of noted potter Stella Shutiva.  She learned to make pottery from her mother when she was 19.  Stella was known for her corrugated pottery. This jar is white and has a katsina figure as the design. The figure is applique, meaning that the clay is applied to the surface of the jar after is built (but before it is fired). The head is sculpted to create dimension. The cloak of the figure is stippled into the clay to create texture. The white clay is stone polished to create a slight shine.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Histia – Shutiva”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
