Shutiva, Stella – Large Corrugated Wedding Vase with Painted Handles (1980’s)
Stella Shutiva was renowned for her corrugated pottery. Her style was inspired by pre-historic style corrugated vessels and a continuation of the pottery by her mother, Jessie Garcia. This large wedding vase is a classic piece of her pottery from the early 1980s. The piece has a round body and short spouts. There is an elegance of symmetry to the form. The corrugated rows are even and symmetrical throughout. The handle of the wedding vase is painted with rain, mountain, and cloud designs. The piece is signed, “S. Shutiva”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a classic of her clay art!
