Silas, Bobby – Corrugated Parrot Jar with Migration Design

9.5" long x 5"h

$ 425.00

Bobby Silas is a creative potter reviving ancient designs for his contemporary pottery. This parrot effigy jar is coil built and painted with clay slips and bee-weed.  The jar has three bands of corrugation which is slipped with white clay.  Below that is a classic migration or bird wing design.  The jar has the parrot head and tail, giving it an effigy appearance.   The parrot has long been an important part of Hopi culture (Parrot Clan, parrot feathers).  The jar is signed on the bottom with a coyote track (Coyote Clan) and his name.  It’s exciting to see an artist delve into the past for inspiration.  The last photos are of Bobby holding his pieces as well as his recent work before it was fired.
