Silas, Bobby – Parrot Jar with Bird Wing and Star Designs

9.5" long x 4.5"h

$ 400.00

Bobby Silas is a creative potter reviving ancient designs for his contemporary pottery. This parrot effigy jar is coil built and painted with clay slips and bee-weed.  The jar has a complex bird wing pattern.  Note the use of the various colors of clay and the variety of designs from the star to the wind patterns.  The jar has the parrot head and tail, giving it an effigy appearance.   The parrot has long been an important part of Hopi culture (Parrot Clan, parrot feathers).  The jar is signed on the bottom with a coyote track (Coyote Clan) and his name.  It’s exciting to see an artist delve into the past for inspiration.
