Sisneros, Jerry – Red Jar with Avanyu
Jerry Sisneros learned to make pottery from his mother, Olaria Sisneros. He was never prolific but created well polished and intricately painted pieces. This jar has a round shoulder and an elongated neck. The jar has a painted red-on-red, very complex avanyu (water serpent). There are plant and rain designs around the neck. It is a striking combination of design and color. The jar is signed on the bottom, “JMS”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
