Sisneros, Jerry (1946-2017)
Jerry Sisneros was a son of noted potter Olaria Sisneros and Fidel Archuleta. His sister is potter Rosemary Lewis. Jerry was known for his intricately painted black-on-black pottery.
Jerry Sisneros learned to make pottery from his mother, Olaria Sisneros. He was never prolific but created well-polished and intricately painted pieces. This jar has a wide, sharp shoulder and a short neck. It is fully painted red-on-red with a plant and cloud pattern. The plants extend up from the shoulder and the clouds down from the rim. It is very tightly painted. The painting leaves enough open polished space to reveal the highly polished surface. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Jerry Sisneros”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
