Mary Small (b. 1940) is known for her traditional Jemez pottery.  It is not just her painting, which is distinctive, but the gray-colored clay that she uses is distinctive to her pottery.  This jar is coil built and painted with clay slips.  The neck has a rain design.  Around the body of the jar there are cloud and rain patterns and a feather design near the base.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Mary Small”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
