Mary Small (b. 1940) is known for her traditional Jemez pottery.  It is not just her painting, which is distinctive, but the gray-colored clay that she uses is distinctive to her pottery.  This jar is coil built and painted with clay slips.  The top has a feather design.  The sides are painted with interlocking butterfly wing designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Mary Small”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
