Mary Small (b. 1940) is known for her traditional Jemez pottery. It is not just her painting, which is distinctive, but the gray-colored clay that she uses is distinctive to her pottery. This jar has a sharp shoulder and sloping sides. The rim of the bowl is carved with a cloud pattern. Around the sides are cloud and rain designs. The bottom of the bowl is slipped with the red clay slip. The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Mary Small”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
