Suazo, Ron – Black and Sienna Bowl with Kiva Step Lid

2.25"w x 4.25"h (w/ lid)

$ 400.00

Ron Suazo learned to make pottery from his mother, Clara Suazo.  His sister is Margaret Garcia.  He said of his work, “As a result of studying both traditional and early designs, my decision was to create my own style, yet include a combination of both, with feather designs, bear paws, and early designs with inlaid turquoise and coral stones on both completely polished black pots, and on matte finish pottery.”.  This bowl has a polished medallion with a feather and mountain pattern. Surrounding the medallion are badge paws.  All the designs are etched into the clay.  The piece is “two-toned” black-and-sienna (this is done after the firing to make the piece black).  There are inset pieces of turquoise and coral.  The lid has a kiva step shape and it is incised and inset with turquoise and coral.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ron Suazo”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
